Last night I had a Google+ hangout with some of my law school friends, and we talked about classes we are taking next year. I spent some time the last couple days learning more about nutrition. Some of it was review (if calories in == calories out, you maintain your weight, etc.), but I did learn some new principles. For example, not all protein is created equal. You should try to eat more protein foods like seafood, nuts, and seeds, and fewer meats, poultry, and eggs, because the former are lower in solid fats. A few weeks ago my dad had the opportunity to attend a Chicagoland area priesthood leadership training meeting. Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles was the keynote speaker, and he emphasized that the Lord blesses priesthood holders who focus on three key principles: 1) Obtain a knowledge of the gospel; 2) Live by the standards of the gospel; and 3) Give dedicated service. By following those simple guides, the Lord has promised “the blessings of heaven.”
My dad really enjoyed the meeting, and actually called me about it on his drive home to tell me the things he learned. In addition to the great lessons learned, Elder Perry wanted to meet everyone there, so he stood at the door to greet everyone as they left. Being a Logan native himself, Elder Perry remarked upon meeting my dad that “Israelsen is a good solid Cache Valley name.”
