After a little over a year of neglecting to publish a new blog post, I decided it was time for my blog to get a refresher. Not only did it need new content, but it also needed a new look. I had my old theme for several years. While I occasionally tweaked its look or added new widgets, it was time for a change.
My sister, meanwhile, called me the other day looking for some input on starting up a website of her own. She was looking to use WordPress as a CMS and wanted my advice on finding a theme. There are countless premium wordpress theme sites out there–I told her to spend some time looking at different ones to find something she liked.
I also had a long conversation the other day with a girl in my neighborhood about blogging. Apparently blogging is something she is passionate about–she maintains three or four. After visiting one or two of them, I was painfully reminded about my need for a fresh look. Spending time on other peoples’ blogs, moreover, reminded me how much I myself enjoy blogging.
Finally, I needed to renew my domain name registrations. Paying to maintain my ownership over my several sites provided additional motivation to revisit this old hobby of mine.
Motivated by this trifecta of recent blog-related events, I spent some time searching out a new theme. I found several that I really liked, and may switch to one of the others that I tinkered with. But for now I decided to try Murmur by DevPress. It’s clean, mobile friendly, and very powerful. It’s also free! There is no (free) documentation, but with some work I was able to figure out how to implement most of the features that matter to me. Hope you like the new look.
