Tonight I enjoyed a rousing game of “Hail to the Chief“, a fantastic board game I picked up on a recent trip to DI. The objective is to be the first candidate to complete the requirements to become elected the President of the United States.
The gameplay progresses in two parts, during the first of which the player earns “delegate votes” for the presidential nominating convention by correctly answering questions about past U.S. presidents. In the second part, the player wins the electoral college votes from the various states by answering questions from U.S. history or geography, most of which have at least some (loose) relation to a/some particular state(s). The first to pick up enough votes in enough states and return to Washington, D.C., is declared the winner and the President of the United States.
The game’s questions vary from “Which state produces the most wooden toothpicks?” (Maine) to “Who killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel?” (how to remember this fact?) It was fun to think back and try to remember facts from history, as well as learn new things about our country. It was a very fun, educational evening!
