For those of you that don’t know, I’m doing webOS app development full time (become a fan on facebook!). It’s a lot of fun, and I’ve found success as well.
My most popular app by far has been the Dough Boy app. You poke him in the belly, and listen to him laugh. I had 10,000 downloads in the first 6 days, and hit 30,000 today! A newly updated version comes out tomorrow, adding five new laughs and an easy-share button.
Random webOS users actually know the app too, which is pretty cool. I went to a dinner party on Sunday night that this kid in my ward was hosting. One of his friends from SLC that came owns a Palm Pre, so naturally it was the topic of discussion between us for a few minutes. He asked me my favorite homebrew apps – I mentioned that my favorites are actually the patches that make webOS even better. I casually asked him if he had the Dough Boy app; he laughed and said, “Oh, where you poke his belly and he laughs?”
My best response yet has been tonight at FHE. Someone had mentioned that I develop apps, and so as we were eating treats (people had started leaving) one of the girls who was hosting asked me what kind of apps I made. So I pulled out the Dough Boy app, and her and her roommates loved it. When one of the roommates, who actually works at a Sprint store, found out that I had made it, she flipped! “No way! Everyone at my work LOVES that app!! I have to call this kid I work with right now!!” She proceeded to immediately call a co-worker and explain in a rushed voicemail message that “The guy that made the Dough Boy app is standing in my living room, no joke!!”
So, if you get a chance to play with a webOS phone, check out the Dough Boy app. It’ll make you laugh!
Woo hoo!
