The other day I noticed that I was running out of room on my server. I had two options: buy a SATA controller card, another MOLEX to SATA power converter, and try to find room for some more hard drives in my case, or replace one of my 250gb drives with a larger one.
I opted to go with the latter option, shopped around a bit, and found an incredible deal on what seems like a pretty sweet drive. I ordered it last week, and got it today. I’ve got 3 drives with a spanned volume on it right now, so I’ve got to transfer all the data off before I can install the new drive. (Now, if I were running Windows Home Server, I could just tell it which drive I wanted to pull, and install the new one, but since I’m running Windows Server 2003, I have to do it manually. But this way if one of my drives fail, I feel like I would have a better chance at data recovery). I plan on setting it up as a spanned volume with two of the existing drives to have a 1.5TB data partition.
Here is the link for the drive I got – check it out! (update: the drive is now $133.99)
